Westchester Butler’s Pantry

I just love the historical presence of a main kitchen with a Butler’s pantry as an elegant staging area just before entering a dining room. As I have discussed in the past, most of my inspiration comes from the aesthetic of many historical Butlers’ pantries.

I was fortunate in that the existing space for the Butler’s Pantry in this Westchester home was not removed. The cabinetry had been updated maybe 20 years ago and in no way did it reflect the aesthetic that would have been characteristic for this home.

I was inspired by existing original parts of this home when I restored the proportions of the doors, stiles, rails, and millwork components.

I used the antue mirror in the paneled back splash to make the space feel more open. The hardware by Nanz dates to the 1920s and compliments the millwork. With modern appliances, this butler’s pantry not only fits right in, it functions beautifully, and meets the home owner’s expectations.

Best,
