Walker Tower
Ralph Thomas Walker, 1889-1972, was a prominent architect of his time. Although not widely recognized, he is known for 1 Wall Street and the Barclay-Vesey building. Another project of his, Walker Tower (built in 1929) has been turned into 50 luxury condominiums.
The exterior of the building has thankfully been restored. The building features the Art Deco ornamentation that he was noted for as seen on 1 Wall Street and the Barclay-Vesey building. Walker Tower has a protected 360 degree view of the impressive Manhattan skyline.
This year’s Designer Visions Annual Show House gave three renowned designers the opportunity to showcase their talents in the restored Walker Tower. Noted Designers Jamie Drake for House Beautiful, Alessandra Branca for Elle Decor, and Carlos Aparicio for Veranda, fully designed and furnished 3 of the apartments at Walker Tower. The interior architecture by Cetra/CRI Architects shows a focus on quality materials and attention to each and every detail.
The hardware throughout is NANZ and the bath fixtures were all supplied by Waterworks. I love how the shower was designed without a curb for easy access and a solid slab of marble was used for the shower floor, eliminating grout where it might be an issue. What truly takes your breath away are the windows, which go all the way down to the floor.
This architectural wonder has been magnificently preserved and, with details for modern day living, has been brought into the 21st century.
Best,
